The Planar Gem of Mechanus

Description

This golden bronze gem is the physical embodiment of the Lawful Neutral, outer plane of Mechanus in the Seam. The material to construct the gem was harvested from the souls of Modrons on the plane of Mechanus.

The gem is shaped into a pyramid and emits a warm glow. Engraved on the gem is a circle with eight lines attached, forming a sun-like symbol. In the centre of the circle is a dot.

Mechanics

Wondrous item, legendary (require attunement by a creature of any Lawful alignment)

Attuning to the gem imparts the attuned creature with the knowledge required to construct modrons. The creature can take:

• 2 days to construct a monodrone (CR 1/8)
• 4 days to construct a duodrone (CR 1/4)
• 8 days to construct a tridrone (CR 1/2)
• 16 days to construct a quadrone (CR 1)
• 32 days to construct a pentadrone (CR 2)

The creature can control these Modrons as if they were primus up to a total CR of their Intelligence modifier (minimum 1). For example, if a creature has an intelligence modifier of 3, they could control one Pentadrone and one Quadrone. Note that higher ranked Modrons can give orders directly to lower ranked modrons, allowing for indirect control over a larger number of Modrons.

Modrons may construct other Modrons, however, they will take 4 times as long to do so, regardless of rank.

If the creature unattunes from the gem, the Modrons will no longer obey them until they are reattuned. Instead, they will obey the will of Primus.
