To The Other Mansion!
The party decided to go and visit Nigel to see what he makes of all of this, as well as to try and ask the Governor to come and meet with Elizabeth. Nigel was, understandably, quite concerned at this development. It could effectively lead to a succession crisis.
Nigel left the party in the library allowing them to research some of the Parkin family history. They discovered that:
- There was no damage to anywhere but the hall floor when Elizabeth died.
- The new Mansion was began construction 5 years before Elizabeth’s death to provide greater protection over the land.
- Jacob has had 2 ex-wives and is on his third. No kids.
- His current wife is at least 20 years younger than him.
After the Governor refuses to deal with the Elizabeth situation. Nigel quietly tells the trio that there is a changing of the guards between 12 and 3am. He also agrees to meet the party on The Circumstances.
Honesty
On The Circumstances, Nigel tells the party that he saw Jacob pocketing a gem after he heard a roar and saw Elizabeth dead of a heart attack. He also recounted that the ‘No Red Hand in Poplin’ mantra, is obviously not entirely true. However, there is no sign of any connection to the red hand from the governor.
After Nigel leaves, the party plot to kidnap the Governor.
Kidnap
Biri left the ship first, and was followed by a member of the Red Hand. She briefly spoke to them in the fields where she had planned to meet up with Victory and Caely with the Governor. After realising that they weren’t going to leave, Biri knocked the Red Hand agent out cold and travelled to the rendezvous.
Victory and Caely turned themselves invisible and snuck into the Governor’s mansion. After losing each other’s location, and a close encounter with two guards, they successful snuck into the Governor’s chambers. The Governor awoke along with his wife, but after a small confrontation the wife was charmed and the governor was intimidated into submission.
He told the party that a peasant transformed into the beast and killed his mother. Victory however, saw through this lie and threatened to expose the governor if he didn’t come with them. He also told the party the gem was useless anyway and he didn’t know anything about it.
The party left with a compliant governor, who told curious guards that he was on a secret mission, and was not to be disturbed as they made their way to the woods.
On the way, Victory shot the governor with a firebolt after he called her “New Money”.
