Taking Inventory

After spending the night in Bram‘s house, the party began to work on a plan for leaving Tambour.

Caely took a morning run down to scope out the Refinery and Docks for equipment. There was a ship yard that contained some equipment for maintaining ships, though not enough equipment for major reconstruction. Any work would need to be mostly carried out by hand.

The party came up with a plan to repair the galley they saw and re-equip and repair it with materials pulled from other ships.

The hull and engine would come from the original galley. The engines would need to be repaired before they could be used. The existing balloon would be repaired using material from the ship yard. Finally as an additional measure, the chalk sails from the barge would be remounted onto the side of the galley to act as a secondary movement system.

Meanwhile, back at the plant

While the others start work on repairs, Victory left to investigate the refinery. Inside she found two tons worth of bronze ingots worth around 6000 gold.

She also broke a window in an office upstairs and discovered a small bag of Sparkdust, enough to run the refinery for around two hours. She also found a letter from the head of manufacturing to the new apprentices of the refinery, details how the machinery operates. The letter indicates that “Feekas Gas” is produced as a bi-product of the refining process, and can be used to refill specially thickened balloons.

Victory stored a quarter ton of the bronze into the bag of holding and kept the Sparkdust without letting the rest of the party know.

Shipyard Montage

The party worked through the night. With the help of Ashok, Caely managed to repair both of the rusted out engines and get them in working order. Biri and Claudia worked on repairing the sails of the ship, and after a few false starts managed to get them complete.

The party worked together through the night to mount the chalk sails to the sides of the galley and rig them correctly. And by morning the main question left was how they would fill the balloon.

Refining Bronze

The party check the refinery and find another copy of the letter. Victory “finds” the bag of sparkdust when she realised she had the only bag.

The party got ready to work the machines to try and produce the Feekas gas. Despite a couple of mishaps the party managed to produce enough gas for three balloons and output another half ton of bronze.

Shipyard Montage 2: Balloons

The party used the heavy balloon from the transport ship, and placed it inside the larger thinner balloon they had already repaired. They inflated it and tied it down with ropes. Caely then used pitch over the sides of the new balloon to help thicken it up and prevent gas from escaping, before finally sealing it and filling it up. There were then two balloons, one sealed inside the other in case of a breach.

The party moved the small transport ship onto the deck of the galley and filled it’s tank with additional gas as a backup. The party also loaded an additional ton of bronze onto the ship and added repair materials.

By the time the party had finished, it was the middle of the afternoon. They all took a long rest, and then in the late evening, Caely refilled the balloon once more, and set off. Their new ship ,“The Situation”, was complete.
