Captain’s Log: May 7th

Exploring Factory 37

In the morning, Victory told Biri about having visited a factory before: the Modrons were creating other Modrons. Later that morning, Biri used clairvoyance to look into the Triumvirate’s meeting room. It’s disappointingly empty, with no obvious pre-conversation.

Victory turned invisible to find Factory 37. As she walked, she noticed some runic symbols on factory gates. Factory 37 was constructed in an older era, alongside the factories nearby. It was quiet, with no machinery noises, or visible smoke from the chimneys, and the fence was closed with a locked gate. There was a metal band stuck across the sign with details on it… in dwarvish.

Victory found a side alley and turned to gas. She entered the factory through the upper level chimney and explored the factory. It was very dark, and she didn’t see anyone inside. There were two conveyor belts in the room. They seemed to be broken, or in disrepair. There were doors at the back leading to a room with some old, dust-covered filing cabinets, and a staircase. Victory went downstairs to find a larger height factory floor room, with a gantry and a platform. In the centre of the room were another three sets of conveyor belts and tall machinery. None of the machinery was active. There were disused seam material extruders on the production lines.

Victory investigated the two offices upstairs, they had filing cabinets, which upon further inspection were very dark inside. She gave up and went to find Caely.

Strange Bedfellows

Caely was in Amdek’s house. She had a chat with Zara – Amdek’s wife, who was in the kitchen. Then she checked in with Ganymede – who was sitting quite contentedly on Monal’s desk. There was some surprise when Monal’s colleagues saw his new look, but no one wanted to piss him off, so any comments that were directed towards it were strictly positive. Ganymede and Monal attended some, fairly boring, meetings. There was not a lot in the way of strategy, they were more general information sharing meetings, and as the investigation into the party was continuing much of the information being provided was false.

Victory looked for Caely as gas. The first window she tried was an empty bedroom, the second room contained a dwarven baby and finally, the third window showed Caely. Victory floated into bed next to her and appeared, saying “so last night was fun”. After Caely had put her dagger away, Victory updated her, and told her about Factory 37. They agreed to meet at the Situation at 11:30 that evening.

Victory clicked her fingers while looking incredibly smug. This smugness fades almost immediately as her nose starts to grow. Her clicking fingers grow and grow. She pushes Caely off the bed. “This has never happened before”. “We all have moments of performance anxiety in bed,” Caely commiserates, it’s her turn to look smug. After a short while, Victory shrinks again. She turned into gas and drifted away.

Caely asks Zara about Factory 37. Zara seems to like her, and Caely has no reason to distrust her. Zara tells her that Factory 37 was a brightsteel manufacturing plant that was created in Kathselle’s first expansion of Gathernotch ~5654-5695. It was closed due to structural issues with the building. Zara feels positively about Kathselle, although feels at times she can be overambitious. She thinks it’s important to not forget the mistakes of the past, and the clan wars.

On the Situation, Victory paints Biri blue, relatively convincingly. They plan that Biri will be invisible, Caely will be a random dwarf, Victory will be gas. At 11:30, the group leave the Situation and head towards Factory 37.

Midnight Meeting

The gate was locked, and no one seemed to be watching the factory. Caely tried to pick the lock nonchalantly, but ineffectively. Meanwhile, Biri snuck through a bend between two rungs of the fence. Shortly followed by Caely.

At 11:45, the group were waiting in the factory and Caely checked in with Ganymede: Monal and Nildred were having an urgent, private conversation with a 3rd person, who Caely didn’t recognise. Nildred left with the third person, and Monal sat down at his desk again. Caely worried that they’ve been found out, and that Department 12 were on their way to the factory.

Victory waited outside, while Biri waited inside the door to the factory. Caely sat, chilling on a conveyor belt. Victory spotted two hooded figures arriving; they unlocked and entered through gates. As they entered the factory they lowered their hoods, revealing that they were Thoryl and Kathselle.

Entering behind them, Victory turned into herself, startling the two Triumvirate members, who drew their weapons. Biri turned visible, and Caely turned back into herself as they tried to convince them. Thoryl gestured for them to all go upstairs. They walked past the thick steel door to the offices, and gathered around one of the upstairs conveyor belts.

Thoryl and Kathselle had some concerns about the letters. The group discussed the issues with the potential for war, hinting that the Triumvirate could be blamed. Biri mentioned the issues with Modrons in Velour. Victory suggests two options:

  • Option 1 – Give the gem to the Hallowdawn.
  • Option 2 – Delay Ranmur getting access to the gem, as the party don’t trust his intentions, and believe he might have an alliance with Department 12.

Ideally with both options, the group could be given immunity from previous crimes.

They ask to confer, and the party went into the back office to give them privacy. Looking out the back of the factory, they saw one figure pacing around the building in a loop. On closer inspection, there was another watcher looking at front of building. Thoryl says that they feel they have to give Ranmur the gem, unless the party can get them more evidence in the meantime. To help in the party’s searches, Thoryl give them three forged Federation lanyards, which required them to input portraits. He suggested that they could masquerade as Arbitrators.

Kathselle suggested to meet again at Factory 37 this time tomorrow. We turned Kathselle and Thoryl invisible, and the left. We also turned Biri and Victory invisible. Caely has no friends.

Caely was left “alone” in the factory, disguised as a drunk dwarf.
