Papers Please
Caely and Victory head to the Amoruk Bridge, approaching the golden desk in the centre of the Foyer, announcing a surprise inspection from the federation and demand to see the records of government officials and employees travelling to Velour.
The dwarf in charge, Brian, takes them upstairs to the finance department. They ask for records from the fifteenth to the twenty-fifth of April 5941. Several pages of dates were provided but there was no sign of Nildred’s name on any of them.
Brian says that he doesn’t think any Modrons have left Gathernotch. When Caely demanded to know who might know about them, Brian said that no-one in middle-management would know. So they ask to be taken to see a detective instead, and Brian introduces them to Bobby. He fails to recognise the two of them, and is instead pleased that the federation are investigating things.
Bobby takes them to the door to department 12, but he wasn’t able to let them in. Caely had to use suggestion to get entry to the office. Nildred sent Monal to the Triumvirate’s office to let them know that they were being investigated.
All of the boards and desks were covered as they entered the office, hiding sensitive information. Nildred claims that she was on administrative leave in Velour, and insisted that she had no idea what they were talking about. Eventually, she messed up, revealing that there were two Modrons, a fact that hadn’t been revealed. Caely and Victory manage to point this out, and use the slip as pre-text for further investigation.
They try to take her to the cells, but Ranmur appears to rescue her, announcing that cells will not be necessary for her. He wants to know what this is about, but Victory says that all three members of the Triumvirate must be present.
Last Ditch Effort
In the Triumvirate boardroom, there seems to be a collective shock when it is announced that Modrons have made it to Velour. The three agree to the cast of a Zone of Truth and instruct the guards to bring in Nildred. Conversation continues with Caely revealing that they know something about the gem, with the three members of the Triumvirate denying that it is a method of control for the Modrons.
Ganymede interrupts, showing Caely a vision of Monal slashing Nildred’s throat, and running to the docks. Caely dashes from the room whilst using Ganymde to attack and distract Monal. Caely catches up, but is cut with an axe by Monal. Caely manages to use her “Fey Presence” ability to frighten him and prevent him from leaving by standing between him and the ships. Eventually with Ganymede’s stinging help, Caely managed to handcuff him and dragged him back to the Amoruk aided by the arriving enforcers.
All Hell Breaks Loose
A dwarf arrives in the conference room announcing that Nildred is dead. The group head to the body, as Caely returns with Monal. Victory re-casts Zone of Truth.
The Triumvirate step out of the zone, leaving Caely and Victory to interrogate Monal. After a series of questions he admits to killing Nildred, and that it was to protect a group he was a member of. His instructions came from someone on the Triumvirate.
They establish Thoryl’s innocence, and as they ask about Kathselle, a fire-ball takes out Kathselle, Thoryl and Caely. Ranmur is seen running out of the room as Victory stays behind to heal everyone. Caely comes up first, sending Ganymede to follow Ranmur, before helping to bring up Thoryl and Kathselle.
The Factory
Ranmur has run to the bridge and begins shouting about terrorists. At the library nearby, Biri has heard the explosion and the shouting and runs towards the bridge. Ranmur attacks and destroys Ganymede. Kathselle tells Caely and Victory that Ranmur has taken the gem, and that there are 1780 Modrons at the top of the city.
Biri joins the chase to the factory with Kathselle, Thoryl, Caely and Victory healing them as they run.
At the factory, Kathselle instructs the Modrons to destroy themselves while instructing some of the others to search for Ranmur. They then head to the docks, trying to see if Ranmur is attempting an escape.
