Captain’s Log: May 8th

We ran down the streets of Gathernotch towards the docks, neck and neck with Kathselle and Thoryl, past piles of scrap metal. There were many people standing around looking very confused at the Modrons that had self destructed. We could see the beginnings of many rumours.

We reached the docks, and Caely checked that the Situation was still there, not wanting to be caught out as before. Asking the harbour master, we learnt that there were four transport ships about to leave, along with a number of smaller private boats which could leave at any point.

We started by closing the harbor, and Thoryl tasked the harbour master and others to investigate all the ships. I found a barrel, which had a fancy purple cloak and gold necklace stuffed inside it near the entrance of a passenger ship. While Biri stayed on the docks to direct people, Victory and I entered the ship and started searching the floors. They reached a corridor on the second floor and could see a shadow pacing back and forth underneath the door at the end.

I tried to blast the door down, but ended up knocking gently. Victory sighed, and threw a firebolt at the door, which burst open and revealed Ranmur staring at us. I shouted “give yourself up” and chucked a rock at his head. Ranmur started casting a spell, weaving dwarven spirits in shadows around him. And from the outside, Biri heard the fighting and started running onto the ship.

Having reached the scene of the attack, Biri ran straight into the cloud of dwarven ghosts. Victory attacked with a scorching ray, and I with an eldritch blast.Unfortunately I then went down under a mace attack by Ranmur.

Ranmur turned towards Victory to attack and healed himself. Biri dispelled the magic of his weird dwarven spirits, and cast her spiritual weapon, attempting to drop it on his head. He managed to blocks it with his shield.

Victory casts magic missile, while screaming at Thoryl, I made a death save.

Biri preserved life on Victory and I. Then struck with her spiritual mace into Ranmur’s head. A strange purple energy/fumes/mist came out of the blow as he slumped to the ground dead.

We then found ourselves standing in a burning room around a dead body when the Triumvirate appeared. Thoryl found a gem around Ranmur’s neck, Biri offered to cast speak with dead tomorrow to try and find more conspirators connected to the Temple of Haela. We also had an opportunity to discuss the planar gems, in particular the ones owned by the Hallowdawn.

Biri visited the Temple of Haela, but didn’t find see anyone she recognised. Bobby was surrounded by other officers, and they were asking for his advice, and beginning to investigate department 12 (by internal affairs). Bobby had been exonerated, and was satisfied, suggesting that he investigate the Haela worshipers.

He actually headed to Factory 35, and found Amdek, and myself disguised as Thorin. He was a bit confused but we had a celebratory drink, or 3, together.

During the night, I re-summoned Ganymede.

Captain’s Log: May 9th

The next morning, we headed to the Triumvirate. Thoryl asked for thirty Hallowdawn mages in exchange for the gem. He wants them to train others and grow Gathernotch’s technological pursuits. Victory suggested starting with 10 for a few months and then building from there. They eventually settled on fifteen, one of whom can take the gem when they arrive in ten days time.

After making the arrangements, we went down to the morgue to speak to Ranmur’s corpse. But the morgue was empty.

In one of the vaults we found a female lab technician, Lizza, whose neck has been cut.

Biri cast Speak with Dead.

She described the people present at the time of her death, three blond male dwarves, and one with dark hair. Ranmur Karaad. He’s alive, he must have feigned death. They left at midnight. Kathselle gave us coordinates for an old Kircher Karaad headquarters, which was quite far away. We should have just left him in the burning boat.
