Dealing with Gleeson
Matthew revealed that he’s killed his boss Sylvia Trap because she figured out he had something to do with Lucas’ death. The body is in her office in the federation building on the fifth floor. Tomorrow morning someone is going to realise that she’s missing, and then they’ll find her. That would be two bodies surrounding Lucas.
After cleaning Matthew up, he and Caely headed towards the Federation. It was around 3.45am when they entered the building and it was quiet.
They get waved through reception, and head into Sylvia’s office. The whole room is splattered, and there is blood-soaked paperwork all over the desk. Caely sticks Ganymede on the door to keep a look out. The cleaners seem to be working on the desks, not heading towards the office.
Caely lifts the body to see the woman’s face, and asks Matthew for details. Apparently she speaks in a condescending tone. Armed with this knowledge, she goes to speak to the cleaners as Sylvia. She instructs the cleaners that there’s been an unfortunate incident in her office that needs to be cleaned up in 15 minutes time with no questions asked. Suggestion and intimidation seems to assure that this will happen.
Matthew takes the bloody papers with him and Caely orders him back to the ship. Caely leaves Ganymede on a shelf in the office to ensure the office is cleaned, and then she uses Prestidigitation to clean up most of the blood, and Dimension Doors out of the Federation building with Sylvia’s body into a nearby alley. The alley seems to be empty. Caely finds a crate and some bags in the alley. After considering her options, she decides to take the body in the crate towards the Temple of Bahamut, about twenty minutes away.
The Temple sits close to an edge where Velour meets the black. After picking a lock to get into the alley beside the temple, Caely left to head to the docks before coming back up the side with the Hiccup to pick up crate.
As Caely loaded the Hiccup, disguised as a generic human, Ashok and Biri appeared from the temple having been awoken by the sound of the ship, ready to fight. Caely managed to jump into the Hiccup and sails away before she is caught. After saying a few nice-ish words, she cast the crate into the black, disposing of the body.
Biri however, has recognised the Hiccup. She messages Caely but gets no reply, and runs down to the docks to confront her there.
Caely tries to explain away what happened as a favour for a friend, eventually persuading her not to ask too many questions and that what she was doing was not too bad. However, Biri does catch sight of Caely’s slightly bloodstained shoes. Before heading to bed that night, Biri checked the alley and found nothing there to suggest more what might have happened.
Politicking
One morning after waking up in her Hallowdawn room, Victory found a note that had been passed under her door. It read “The Four Corners, 12pm”.
Before leaving, Victory went to potion room in the Hallowdawn on the hunt for extra potions. It turned out that Lester had taken some potions from there, and had a Master counter sign it. He’d taken two strength potions, two healing potions and a poison. Victory changed that to 3 strength potions and 3 healing potions, sneaking an extra one of each for herself.
At “The Four Corners”, a pub near the docks of Velour, Victory finds Elmir, a necromantic specialist. Elmir is a bitter but sassy Tiefling, who is desperate to go on adventures like Victory. Elmir loves that Victory and Lester are fighting, as people are afraid of him and his potential for blackmail. Elmir tells Victory a rumour that Lester had recently managed to get a mage sent to Gathernotch (Faynore Venfina). She was stealing potions for him, and took the blame. People who used to make fun of him are now either avoiding him, or speaking politely of him.
Victory used gaseous form to check out Lester’s room. It is very neat and seems a bit empty. He probably has most of his stuff with him. In the end, Victory did manage to find a couple of loose scraps of journal paper, one with Elmir’s name.
Elmir: slaughtered 17 people in a small village before entering The Seam.
Victory moved various items in the room to slightly offset them in a way that only Lester would know someone had been in the room.
Memories
Still disturbed by Caely’s antics, Biri went to find Ashok. Caely had told Biri that she couldn’t tell her what she was doing because it wasn’t her secret to tell, but the blood on her shoes was disturbing. Biri asked Ashok if there’s a way to help, or if it’s better to not know what happens.
Ashok told Biri the story of Saint Jones - a follower of Bahamut.
There was once a town struck by plague, and a local lord who was hoarding supplies. A local Paladin asked Bahamut for guidance. Was it right to kill this lord so that his money could be shared, and distributed amongst those suffering from the plague? Bahamut said to “question the lord thrice”. Jones demanded that the wealth be shared on three separate days. On the third day, he was denied again, and his blade was filled with a holy light, and he struck the lord down.
Ashok interprets the story in two ways. One, that violence is not something to be taken on unless every option has been exhausted. And that two, that you should give people every opportunity to explain their evil deeds.
Biri wants to help Caely, but isn’t fully on board with the actions that she seems to have to take. She also admits that she doesn’t feel ready to take on this kind of responsibility, she wasn’t even fully trained. As she says this Ashok turns a leather bound book towards her. It’s the final book of seven that Biri needed to study to complete her training. Ashok lends it to her.
Leaving
The party agree to leave that night, with Caely in a bit of a hurry to try and escape the incoming missing person’s investigation for Trap.
After leaving port, Caely realises her mistake when she finds that Matthew Gleeson is still on the ship. In the hidden cargo hold.
