The Empedocles

Guild Details
Founded 4312

The Empedocles are a secret organisation dedicated to the four elemental forces, Fire, Water, Air and Earth.

History

The Empedocles was founded in 4312 by four druids who wished to teach and promote wider user of elemental magic within the Seam. The aim was to try and bring peace and balance to the Seam. Through elemental magic, people could create land, keep people warm, manipulate and guide the weather and provide fresh drinking water.

The Empedocles grew into a good sized organisation and worked with some of the early guilds to help them achieve their goals for the people. However, over time the competition between the guilds grew and grew. The Empedocles were commonly called on to act as peacekeepers. Things came to a head in 5126 with the guild wars when the Empedocles acted as warriors for a number of the guilds. By the end of the war, the Empedocles were blamed for much of the damage. They were hunted down and killed by members of the newly formed Federation.

The Empedocles decided to go underground, burning their public offices and classrooms, swearing never again to become involved with matters of the guilds.

Goals

Today the guild seek a way to create a utopia. A place of real land in the Seam. They want to try and use elemental energy to produce a paradise of elemental magic and chaos that defies the endless void of the Seam.

Ranks

The Empedocles use ranks, a hang over from their militaristic days, to organise themselves. They have:

  • The Four Grand Masters - One for each of the elements
  • Masters - A powerful member of The Empedocles who has proven themselves to be both loyal and skilled.
  • Apprentices - A member of The Empedocles. They will be linked with a master who will continue their training.
  • Initiates - Potential joiners of the organisation. They will usually be given tests to prove their ability, and provide initial training, before they can join as full members.
