Entering the Mausoleum

The party realised that by using the remains of the undead around them, they could force their way through the black barrier.

They descended through a long tunnel into the Mausoleum and started to search the room. In the centre of the room was a strange circular etching, surrounded by a mixture of draconic and arcane runes. The party steered well clear.

It’s a Trap!

As Caely peered into the pools in each corner of the main room, she spotted too late as a skeleton leaped out from the pool and attacked her. This triggered skeletons in the other corners of the room to leap out and attack Ashok and Claudia.

Biri and Victory turned around to help but appearing before them was the wrathful sprit of the Fallen.

Ashok was dragged by two skeletons into the circle of runes and became trapped. The runes started glowing red as Ashok started to bleed, his blood making the runes glow brighter and brighter.

Biri used Turn Undead to force the wraith to flee, and the party made short work of the remaining skeletons. However, with Ashok now trapped the party had to think of a way to stop him from being completely drained of life, and end the ritual.

The party panicked for a while before Ashok suggested attempting the ritual to seal away the wraith. The party rushed to complete all of the steps, wrapping the skeleton of the fallen and returning it back into the tomb. Victory noticed a grey gem and a scrap of parchment inside the tomb, and pulled them out before Biri closed it shut.

Biri breathed ice over the tomb, more powerfully that she had ever done before, Bahamut’s will coursing through her. The tomb was sealed shut and the wraith was vanquished. The force detaining Ashok disappeared and he was freed from the circle.

An Old Friend

However, the circle continued to glow brighter and brighter.

Suddenly, there was a flash of fire. And then, standing in the centre of the circle, armour cloaked in shadows stood a red dragonborn. Biri recognised him immediately. It was Eon. And he was the Black Flame.

Eon winked at Biri, and then disappeared in another flash. The party heard him running up the tunnel back to the trials.

They chased after him but were held up in the Trial of Mirrors as he smashed the mirror behind him. The party managed to use the shards to escape, but they were too late to catch up.

The Black Flame vaporised Ganymede, and freed the circumstances from it’s tether. They then sailed The Circumstances far out of reach of the party.

Mourning

Caely re-summoned Ganymede and sent him to fly after The Circumstances.

The party gathered the bodies of the residents of Tambour into the centre of the village and burned them, with Biri and Ashok giving last rites.

Victory gave Biri the scrap of parchment. It was the final page of Marcus Brandt’s Journal (February 28th 489).
