Letter Sent to Hallowdawn

Dear Hallowdawn,

We are writing to you from the Wyroads, having just defeated a great wraith in the city of Tambour. We have completed a mission and you will be happy to see the results. We also found the source of the issues in Tambour that have been threatening the Seam for the last 60 years.

The original source of the disturbance was the arrival of a wraith, which was by my (Biri’s) understanding the plane shifted soul of one of the Fallen. Unfortunately since its arrival it has successfully completed a ritual to bring the return of Black Flame, who is infamous for his role as the leader of the Fallen, who were responsible for the downfall of the temple of Bahamut on the material plane. He has, amongst other crimes, the blood of the last chosen of Bahamut, a mere child, on his hands, and is dedicated to serving Tiamat, so will stop at nothing.

From what we know, he is on his way to Valor to cause chaos and presumably bring the will of Tiamat to the Seam. He also stole our ship, the Circumstances, and while we are on our way to help, we are about a few days behind.

Look out for the Circumstances and arrest him if you can. He is a great danger to the whole seam!

Chores to do

Having refuelled The Situation, the party separated to get their jobs done and get on their way in pursuit of the Black Flame. Victory had intended to head towards the bars with Caely, but became confused by Caely’s human disguise so attempted to avoid ‘Caely’s friend’ and walk into town alone. After an unsuccessful attempt to hide in an alley to avoid the stranger, Victory and disguised-Caely made an uneasy truce and arrived at the bar together, despite a small incident with thaumaturgical sparks in disguised-Caely’s face.

At the Stitchers Respite the two learnt that there were no local rumours about The Circumstances – most likely due to the very brief stop of the ship at the Wyroads – but that the large transport vessel from which Caely had previously stolen the Navigation Orb, was still stuck in the docks, having been refused permission by their guild to leave without their full set of back up navigational systems.

Biri and Bram

Meanwhile Biri had visited Bram, the old former resident of Tambour – to update him on the state of the town, and on the possibility for returning there. He was pleased to learn that he and anyone else who was interested would be able to visit and collect their belongings abandoned so long ago but seemed sceptical that there would be much resettlement at this point. After their conversation Biri returned to the ship ready to depart on their pursuit once more. Biri also told Bram about the Velour temple to Bahamut, hoping to perhaps encourage folks from Tambour to visit.

Sticky fingers strike again

After leaving the bars behind with no other new information Caely (still disguised and unrecognised by Victory) was attempting to persuade her to steal maps for The Situation. Somehow the distrust Victory already felt towards this stranger, and her discomfort at this suggestion resulted in a firebolt to the face for disguised-Caely who (in some very quick thinking) updated her disguise to include significant blood and burns, so when the extremely concerned nearby sailors came to check in on her they were easily persuaded to take her away from Victory, and soon she managed to wrangle her way aboard the ship to ‘visit the medical bay’. On board the ship Caely made good use of her suggestion and prestidigitation spells to avoid any suspicions the doctor could have developed about her injuries and then give him the slip in order to search out some maps. However, she got caught between 4 sailors and found herself in the ship’s Brig in very short order.

Escaping gas

Outside, having firebolted someone directly to the face on a crowded dock-side, Victory found herself in a sticky situation, grappled and dragged by two sailors and on her way to the town jail. Fortunately, a brief moment of freedom with one arm was all she needed to transform herself into a gaseous form and drift away from them and back to The Situation. Here she updated Biri on the events of the day, including some very inaccurate details about the injuries ‘Caely’s friend’ had suffered from the fireball.

All a Brig Misunderstanding

Still in the Brig of her target ship, Caely napped in order to rejuvenate her spells, and then waited. After some time she was visited by a very drunk and dishevelled looking Troy (her former unfortunate date) accompanied by a smart looking officer. Troy, of course, didn’t recognise her under the disguise, so she managed to get away without being recognised as the thief from before. However, she was still trapped. Ganymede, sent to explore, spotted both the keys for the cell, and the guard to whose belt they are attached. With some crocodile tears drawing him closer, Caely suggested to the guard that she would be better off waiting outside the cell, so they sat in his cubby hole and chatted, waiting for the Captain’s return.

Milton, the guard, turned out to be a local of Velour, but remained largely unmoved by Caely’s story of the danger the city might be in should the Black Flame wreak destruction on it.

3 hours later….

With Caely still not having returned Victory returned to the ship once again, this time in her gaseous form, and managed to not only get aboard, but also find her way to the Brig. Here she attracted the attention of Milton and Caely with a beautiful gaseous dance, and drew Milton away in an attempt to give Caely a chance to escape. Though the first attempt was largely unsuccessful (Milton returned when Caely stood on a very creaky step) more dancing and hovering over old crates from Victory kept him away long enough for Caely to transform into the smart officer she had seen briefly earlier.

Once again Milton returned, this time to find the officer and no prisoner – a situation which caused sufficient panic in him for Caely to simply walk off the ship, head held high and handcuffs covered by a handy jacket. Victory remained as gas, giving the performance of her life until her time was almost up, then returning to The Situation, which was now ready to depart for Velour, all of her crew returned!

Travel time

An uneventful 7 day journey followed, and the party arrived back in Velour mid-afternoon of the 25th April.

Uneventful that is beside the endless lock-picking, stealth practice and the night that Victory and Claudia got drunk and started doing impressions of the rest of the crew. As a thanks for getting her job back, Claudia gave Victory the contact details for ‘Craric Enwynn’, her dead drop contact for messages when she’s away on missions.
