Before Departure

The pirates bodies were collected by Slater Stone‘s men.

The party prepared a fake manifest to give to Darkshadow. The manifest states that the gem has already shipped and is on it’s way to Poplin:

They spoke with Jean Luc to determine the best course of action to take over. Eventually settling on organising a mutiny, with Jean Luc aiming to convince as many members of the crew as possible on the way to Poplin.

Jean Luc also gave the following information:

Overview

The boat itself usually has around 40 crew. However, 4 were killed during the initial attack on The Circumstances, 4 more were killed on The Circumstances and Jean-Luc has agreed to mutiny. Additionally, two other crew mates were killed during other merchant raids. This leaves 28 crew remaining, plus Darkshadow.

A full on assault may not be possible. The large number of crew + Darkshadow will be an issue. However, the crew can’t be everywhere at once. It’s likely that you will be asked to remain on the ship before the attack on the cargo ship carrying the gem occurs. This may give you some opportunities for sabotage.

Could we turn the crew?

It’s possible, they don’t hold any particular loyalty to Darkshadow, only that she’s managed to procure plenty of gold for them before now.

Where is the gold kept?

It’s usually spent as quickly as possible, no point carrying gold around, it looks suspicious. Darkshadow herself holds a number of valuable properties on some of the outposts in the Seam.

Blow it up?

Certainly an option. If we could time the explosions of the gas tanks that would work best, then we can escape. Alternatively, letting the air out of the balloon would also work. There are plenty of weapons aboard, including 10 ballistae and a mangonel.

Will she be suspicious about the missing pirates?

Almost certainly. I can probably persuade her about what happened but the lady is certainly perceptive. What excuse should I give?

What does she want with the gem?

She told the crew that it is an item of immense power in the Seam. Something that would help change their fortunes forever. She has a buyer lined up apparently (Hidden information, it was someone in The Red Hand, Jarvis would be familiar with the organisation, though not a member himself, they were associated with the family he used to work for).

Members of the Crew

On returning to The Night Runner, Jean Luc’s prediction was correct and the party become part of the crew until they can strike the cargo ship before it reaches Poplin. The ship flies through the black to try and get ahead of the ship before it can reach it’s destination.

Day 1

Jean Luc managed to convince 6 members of the crew to join the mutiny.

Biri played a dice game with Jean Luc and won some gold.

Victory trained her tail for more manoeuvrability, aiming to eventually be able to use it to slap people.

Flint established a pattern of wandering around. Examining how The Circumstances is attached to the Night Runner and figuring out how to detach it with the help from another pirate who has already agreed to mutiny.

Caely learns about Deep Black Navigation from the helmsman. Discovering that there is a large amount of instrumentation for her to learn in order to do this accurately.

Jarvis looked for a disguise kit in the hold. Eventually discovering some silks that he could use to make an outfit.

Day 2

Jean Luc recruited 6 more members of the crew, but was overheard.

Biri beat up four pirates on deck in a competition organised by Jean Luc, taking out crew members that were loyal to Darkshadow.

Victory continued her training.

Flint learned how to break the afterburners on the ship by feeding them more fuel that they could handle.

Caely flirted with Darkshadow and was invited for a glass of wine in the captain’s cabin.

Worst Date Ever

While Caely was having a drink with the Captain, a member of the crew entered and whispered something into Darkshadow’s ear.

Jarvis, having seen the crew member enter, questioned him as he left. The crew member said that it was nothing, and went below deck. Jarvis hid at the bottom the stairs in a barrel.

Meanwhile, the drinks continued, and Darkshadow kissed Caely… and then stabbed her in the side. Caely managed to escape, and as Darkshadow pursed her passed Jarvis’ hiding spot, Jarvis jumped out of his barrel and killed her in one shot.

The mutiny began and Jean Luc’s crew managed to take over the ship.

Loot

The party found:

  • 4 50G gems
  • Bag of Holding
  • Immovable Rod
  • A treasure map, leading to an uncharted floating island, off the Chalks. Jean-Luc had previously told the party that she stored much of her treasure on an island like this. Darkshadow usually made these journeys with a skeleton crew. Literally. She would hire the services on a necromancer to get crew for the trip.

The Ship is Ours!

The party were forced to hand over the map to Darkshadow’s island to Jean Luc.

Caely suggested that Jean Luc could be an admiral with many ships and force people to pay him gold for protection. He took the idea under advisement but he wants to be a pirate Captain for now.

Brendan has now been paid 8G in total.
