Pitstop in Velour
The party wanted to spend as little time in Velour as possible, hoping to avoid meeting with the Hallowdawn to discuss their failures.
The guards and captain from the prison ship were discharged in Velour and sent back with a letter:
To whom it may concern,
The bearers of this letter have been released back to you as a gesture of goodwill on the part of their accidental captors. We are sorry for the break out from the prison ship, and we would like to take the opportunity to explain the circumstances in which we were first taken prisoner.
As individuals we had become aware of the presence in Gathernotch of a Planar Gem, an item which you now have in your possession. We were concerned about the acquisition of this gem by individuals, and indeed guilds, whose purposes are unknown and may well not be of benefit to the Seam at large. The Planar Gem in question, it proved, was connected to the Plane of Mechanus and was the source of power for the alchemist working in the lower levels of Gathernotch - the results of which I am sure you are aware of.
As a result of our information we travelled to Gathernotch and attempted to gain information about the Alchemist and his work, both directly and indirectly. It seems that he was in fact already deceased before our arrival, however we only became aware of this following the fire and events which came after. Despite his death however it is clear that the mechanical objects which he had created, and indeed the systems of supply that he had put in place continued to be active each night up until the time of the fire.
We would like to make it clear that, whilst we may have made some errors of judgement in our actions, our purposes were merely to obtain the gem, with the hope of preventing the ultimate destruction of the Seam. We acknowledge that this may now not be possible but we hope that you will consider the possibility that our hands might be safer than many others given the power of the item, and the role it holds within the Seam.
It is also my personal hope that the explanation contained within this letter will clear our names with the clan in order that we might freely travel to Gathernotch once again in the future.
Should you wish to ask any further questions or obtain further information you would be welcome to write to me care of the Temple of Bahamut in Velour.
With all best wishes
Biri of Bahamut
P.S. To Bobby Fisher, I apologise for any personal hurt which you may have suffered, I enjoyed your company very much and wish you all the best.
P.P.S. Please excuse the blue tiefling who can be a little over enthusiastic and acts before thought more often than she should. She does mean well, and meant no harm to the people of Gathernotch with any of her actions.
Visiting the Temple
Biri stopped by the temple to donate 80G. Whilst she was there Ashok told her the story of The Black Flame Heresy, as the events happened after Biri disappeared into the Seam.
Ashok also mentioned that he’s been having dark dreams about a cursed shrine to Bahamut in an abandoned outpost somewhere in the Seam.
Heading to Poplin
The party decide to head to Poplin. Victory has leads about a creature attacking civilians from the Hallowdawn.
The Governor of Poplin has reached out The Hallowdawn. There is potentially a magical creature on the loose in the fields and forests of Poplin. A number of locals have been killed and the marks remaining suggest some sort of large creature.
Magical creatures are not common in The Seam, and they certainly don’t appear on their own. This suggests the influence of some kind of magical item. Potentially a Planar Gem.
On the way to Poplin:
- Biri started researching about abandoned outposts. Discovered rumours of a bronze refinery outpost that was abandoned after a mysterious black smoke killed much of the town.
- Victory trains a headbutt skill.
- Caely practices navigating the black.
Arrival in Poplin
After arriving in Poplin, Jarvis elects to stay on the ship while the rest of the party head to a local tavern, the Rusty Scythe.
They manage to gather a lot of disinformation. Many people claimed to have seen the creature but the descriptions varied wildly.
Mansion Meeting
After the tavern, the party went to visit the Governor to discuss the case. The Governor, mostly assisted by Nigel, his butler provided the party with some information and arranged for a reward payment.
The party learned that the creature has killed five civilians, two guards and a hunter. The creature has only even been spotted by two hunters, who are camped east of the Governors Mansion.
Seeing the Body
The most recent death was Jopos Tealeaf. Biri went to examine the body at the Shrine to Pelor. The priest there, David Lumber, showed Victory the remains.
The bodies had large marks on either side of the corpse. Suggesting two hands with five claws on each. There was no sign of the body having been consumed, suggesting that the creature was killing to kill, not to feed. Biri also noticed that the body had been torn in two, not cut. Suggesting a creature of great strength, not great precision.
Jarvis is Gone
When the party returned back to The Circumstances there was a blood trail leading down the gangplank. Below deck were signs of a fight, and Jarvis was nowhere to be seen.
Following the blood trail along the harbour led to an empty berth. Jarvis had been kidnapped.
